Bespoke luxury ‘his and her’ dressing room
We were commissioned by our clients, Mr and Mrs Hardy, to create this bespoke luxury ‘his and her’ dressing room for their stunning new self-built family home. We had already worked with them to construct the unique fitted bedroom furniture for each of their four son’s bedrooms which can be seen here.
Mr and Mrs Hardy were keen to have our input at the planning stage for their dressing room which was going to be a special space in their master bedroom suite. They wanted to feature ideas from the boys’ bespoke wardrobes and also to house the room’s underfloor heating system and eco-friendly heat recovery pipework. This would create a luxuriously cosy feel on a chilly morning.
Bespoke open and concealed storage space
Wardrobes with doors protect your clothing collection, especially those delicate or rarely worn pieces. Open shelving provides a stylish way to showcase special items. In this room glass shelves add an attractive display section which also adds depth and character to the cabinetry.
Made to measure ‘his and her’ storage with defined zones
Like any couple, our clients had separate storage needs. So, we spent lots of time talking with them to fully understand their requirements so we could get every detail right. In a shared dressing room, the allocation of storage space is usually divided fairly equally, but the two areas can be visually distinctive and uniquely customised. For instance, in general, men want trouser racks and tie rails, while women need extra height for long dresses and compartments for jewellery, but it’s very individual.
In this case, the separate storage areas within the room are defined by different finishes and texture, however the doors share the same elegant style and recessed handle detail giving the overall scheme a cohesive look. The cabinetry was meticulously designed so that each set of doors are the same size. There is even a dummy end panel that looks like a door. This gives the room ‘flow’ and everything looks perfectly streamlined.
“By creating a hidden plinth detail on the back of the doors, we were able to cleverly conceal the entrance to the bathroom. So, from the outside the effect is simply a run of streamlined wardrobes,” says Thomas Streeter, Managing Director, Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery.
Handcrafted real oak wardrobe doors
Mr Hardy wanted the classic look of natural solid oak doors for his wardrobe section. We created the bespoke wardrobe interiors using a real oak veneer, which was then exquisitely finished with an eco-friendly, high performance waterborne lacquer for clarity and superb wear resistance. Inside the linen cupboard we also crafted solid oak slatted shelves, which complement the rest of the internal finish.
The final result is a bespoke fitted ‘his and her’ dressing room that exudes style and sophistication but is also utterly practical and effortless to use.
