This particular Surrey home is built in a traditional style with attractive architectural detailing in the form of skirtings and picture rails. So, our client was rightly keen that her bespoke unit fitted in perfectly with the look and features of the house. However, while the design needed to blend with the property’s traditional style, she also wanted to incorporate the latest modern technology with display shelving and easy to use concealed storage space.

The living room shown here has high ceilings, so we suggested that the picture rail would be the most effective and aesthetically pleasing height for the unit. This also made the built-in furniture feel like it had always been naturally part of the room.

As you can see the made to measure shelving and cabinets feature a mix of open and closed storage, which allows for gadgets, digital boxes and cables to be hidden neatly out of view, while allowing for treasured and precious items to be showcased. Closed storage on the bottom and open on the top is a classic style that can suit any living room.

Although the unit is designed to suit the traditional features of the room, we also incorporated the modern enhancements and streamlined minimalist look that our client wanted, such as the flat, push-to-open doors of the low-level bottom cabinets.

Customised in deep grey

Painting fitted furniture so it contrasts or complements other colours in the room is a smart way to add interest to a room and create a statement wall.

This unit has been fully spray finished in Farrow and Ball Down Pipe, a daringly dark lead grey, which has a richly luxurious feel. This grey is stunning as a background to art and extremely effective in creating a dramatic statement.
