A handcrafted in-frame bespoke kitchen exudes timeless quality. This custom-made kitchen was designed, made and installed by Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery for a client in Kingston, Surrey.

Sometimes when you are planning a new kitchen, the best option is to completely rip out the old kitchen and start again. This was the case with our clients who were refurbishing their Victorian house in Kingston up on Thames in Surrey. As you can see from the pictures of their old kitchen, it was dated and impractical, and a major redesign was needed.

A kitchen is an important room. It is the heart of the home; a place where we cook, eat and, socialise. So, making the most effective use of the space is an essential part of planning the kitchen of your dreams.

Our clients had decided on a traditional in-frame hardwood kitchen as it is a classic style which never grows old. Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery was commissioned to take care of the entire project from the initial design to installation, including everything from new plumbing and electrics to constructing and installing the cabinets and worktops.

Made to measure in solid wood

We made all the framework and doors in tulipwood, which is in our opinion the best wood to use for a painted kitchen because of its combination of strength, stability and flat painted finish. An Egger board was chosen for the insides of the cupboards. Every drawer was made from solid oak with dovetailed joints and fitted with Blum under-mounted soft close runners.

Painted grey exudes classic style and luxury

Installing a painted kitchen allows you to have complete freedom over the exact look of your kitchen furniture. We can provide the specific colour and finish you want.

Our clients decided upon sophisticated grey for their new kitchen. Grey tones are very on trend and give units character and a timeless elegance. Grey falls into the ‘neutral’ colour category and tones can vary from warm to cool, and its versatile shades can be easily mixed and matched. Depending on the grey you choose, grey can add drama to a room or evoke calm.

In this kitchen, the grey chosen for the wall cabinets is Farrow and Ball’s Plummet No. 272, a strong architectural grey. The island is painted in Farrow and Ball’s Railings No.31 a dark slate grey.

Stunning granite worktops

Granite has a beauty and strength that few other countertop materials can match.

The granite we supplied is called White Wave. Every slab is unique in its beauty and we offer a service which allows you to choose your actual slab before we get it cut, polished and fitted for you.

A show-stopping centrepiece island

With the move towards larger, open-plan kitchens, an island has become an essential focal point, housing appliances and providing extra preparation space. Having a main sink, like this butler sink, in the island is a great idea if you spend most of your time either prepping or cleaning up, and want to socialise while you're doing your kitchen tasking. Apart from the functional aspect of an island, it also allows for a bolder contrasting colour or finish, or a more expensive material that would be prohibitive across the entire room.

We also fitted an electric underfloor heating system as the primary heat source, which provides an even and comfortable heat, and installed new lighting throughout as well as under-cabinet lighting to softly highlight the worktops.

The final result is a beautiful bespoke kitchen which has a luxurious feel, so although it's a working space it looks stunning, feels comfortable and utterly practical.
